Folk and Kin 〰️

Hello

I’m Gemma, a creative lifestyle photographer and writer based in Cumbria, living by the sea with my husband, three children, and our little dog, Ned. I create thoughtful, natural photography that captures the stories of small independent brands, families, interiors and gardens, creative folk and weddings. My work is inspired by nature and the changing seasons, focusing on the quiet, moments that tell a story.

I have collaborated with many brands and small businesses over the years, helping to portray their story through honest, natural photography. I am greatly inspired by the coast and find deep connections and inspiration through my love of nature, slow living, and the arts.

When I’m not behind the camera, I’m part of The Seasonal Creative, a collaborative project bringing slow living, nature-inspired life to the heart of the Lake District. I have created a seasonal photography workshop which covers mindful, creative practices and the importance of slowing down. I also work part-time for Cumbria Wildlife Trust and love being outdoors in my spare time, walking with my children and taking photographs of our seasonal travels. I love to read and enjoy creative writing, and I have recently published my photo journal, Capture The Quiet.

As a conscious photographer,

I advocate for nature and the natural world. To ensure that my work positively impacts the environment, I have developed a sustainability policy, including using sustainable materials, reducing waste, minimising energy and water use, utilising digital and online formats to share my work, and limiting the need for printed materials. Additionally, I support and promote nature preservation initiatives by donating some of my profits to Cumbria Wildlife Trust. Through my photography, I am dedicated to creating beautiful images that positively impact the environment.

I am based in the Lake District but travel all over the UK and beyond.
